George St. Pierre is one of and or the greatest welterweights of all time. He has held the title since 2007 and has dominated that division since. His style may not be the most entertaining but he has the right to be called a champion. With his ground and pound style that can out match anyone’s on the ground to his strength that is rarely pointed out. GSP has gone toe to toe with the best of them all. A respectfully fighter who has the poise and mental focus of a champion.

This warrior has seen it all and this Saturday night he goes one on one with a man who most say can defeat him in Johnny Hendricks. Hendricks who has been a rising star in the UFC ranks and will challenge the man who has defeated all that has challenged him in his title reign.

Since George St. Pierre has won the title from Matt Hughes in 2007, he has fought and defeated the likes of Josh Koscheck, Carlos Condit, Thiago Alves, Matt Sera, Jon Fitch, Jake Shields and the always out spoken Nick Diaz.

St. Pierre is a world known figure and has become immortal in the MMA universe. He and Anderson Silva has dominated their division in the same time but since Silva’s lost in July to Chris Weidman, there is a question in the air if GSP can continue his dominates.

George is very high on a young upcoming fighter named Rory McDonald who is in the same weight class and training camp as the champion. He is fighting Robbie Lawler at UFC 167.  GSP has said in the past that he will never fight McDonald simply because he is a training partner of his.

With age comes decreased in skills for the Canadian and some will question how long he can go on being champion. In a recent interview his trainer thinks he should retire from the sport but the real decision will come from the man himself.

I don’t believe it is time for the St. Pierre to retire but I do have doubts that he can beat Hendricks on Saturday. He will need to make his mark on this fight to end the questions of his retirement.
